When travellers enter Bolivia from Perú via Copacabana, they have the chance to see from the Bus all the Cordillera Real, some of them may say "You have to be crazy to walk those mountains from the beginning to the end" but the truth is that if you are a real Explorer. The "Real - Cordillera Real Traverse"  is  the Real Ultimate Experience.

Probably you will wonder What About meals during such a long Trek You may say I will not ever be more than a couple of  days eating canned food. Well, this Trek is extremely well organised so that there's never lack of fresh meat, vegetables, fruits or even beer or wine.

This programme gives us the chance to make a series of combinations for shorter treks, different points where you can join the group which is doing the whole programme. Programme

1st day.- 06:00 pick up from the Hotel. Transfer to the Bus Stop is included!

07:00 Bus to Sorata 2670m It is a beautiful bus ride  because you will see all the time the Andes Range, where you will be walking for the next days. After crossing a high pass we get into the Sorata Valley It is indeed a  beautiful bus ride to the starting point.

12.00 Arrive in Sorata. Lunch and free afternoon to enjoy one of the most beautiful villages in Bolivia.

2nd day.- 10.00 SORATA - LAKHATIYA

This is the time to start our trek! From 9 to 10 in the morning our staff will load luggage, meals and equipment on the mules. On the way up to Lakhathiya 4700 m  you'll enjoy of different views of the Valley of Sorata.  5-7 hrs walk

3rd day.- LAKHATIYA - ANCOMA

On this day we will have our first  pass 4900 m high.  It is a hard trek but  beautiful, absolutely rewarding getting to Ancoma after a hard day walking. Views of Illampu massif are simply amazing. 5-7 hrs walk

4th day. ANCOMA-COCOYO- Another pass on the way. Untamed Andes, solitary path leading you to the beautiful miners village called Cocoyo 3600m. Camping not too far away from the Village.

5-7 hrs walk. 

5th day.- COCOYO-CHAJOLPAYA

The path will lead us to Sarani pass which will be crossed about midday. Then, depending on the group's pace we will get to Chajolpaya 4.600 m. around 4 p.m. 

5-7 hrs walk. 

6th day.- CHAJOLPAYA-WARAWARANI

One of the most important things about this trek is that you get to see really isolated areas and you can meet people living still like centuries ago. After another pass we will set up the campsite just below Chajowara and Wara Warani massifs.  5-6 hrs walk

7th day.- WARA WARANI - PALCA

On this day we will pass several typical houses, walk is going to be easier compared to the previous days and you will also be more acclimatised although there will be another pass to pass. Camp at Palca. 5-7 hrs walk

8th day.- PALCA -JANKHOLAKHAYA                                                                

By this time the group, the trekkers and the mountains are just one thing, one body where words are useless because we are part of the Andes. It is like we have more of the same but different. That's what makes of the Andes Royal Range the most beautiful range of the entire Andes in South América. After another pass we will get to Jankholakhaya. 5-6 hrs walk

9th day.- JANKHOLAKHAYA - KHOTIA

From Jankholakhaya we will head to the beautiful lake Khotia. One more pass and amazing  descent with views of the Altiplano in the background. 5-6 hrs walk

This place is also the finishing point for those who chose the 9 day Trans Cordillera Trek. 3 hrs drive to La Paz. Late arrival.

Khotia is also the starting point for the following Treks:

10th day  KHOTIA - AJWANI

As we said before on this trek you get like more and more of the same but different. Well, mountains are like persons, every one has its own beauty. Our first nine days were for the eastern face of the Andes, Now prepare yourself for the western face as our Trek from now on is going be totally on the western face till the end. On this day we will head to this beautiful lake called Ajwani and camp at its shores. 5-7 hrs walk

11th day.- AJWANI - JURI KHOTA

The western face has never been more beautiful, it is as though you were doing another trek. Going from Ajwani to Juri Khota will
be really good because you will be getting used to a different scenery. Camp by Juri Khota Lake. 5-7 hrs walk

12th day.- JURI KHOTA - CHIAR KHOTA

On this day we will head to the mythical  Condoriri. This mountain owes its name to the condor that used to be the Lord of the area. We will get to  probably one of the most beautiful lakes in the Andes: Black Lagoon "Chiar Khota" 4-6 hrs walk

13th day.- CHIAR KHOTA - TUNI

Morning to explore the surroundings to in the afternoon head downhill to Tuni where we'll get more special supplies. 3 hrs walk. This place is also the finishing point for those who chose the 13 day Trans Cordillera Trek. 2 hrs drive to La Paz. Late arrival.

  • 5 day trek Tuni - La Cumbre

  • 12 day trek Tuni  - Estancia Una

14th day.- TUNI - JANKHO KHOTA

Most of the Trekkers take the path that goes straight to Huayna Potosí. It is considerably better the one we will take as if we were going to another mountain but Huayna Potosí. Our path will take us to the lagoons Sii Khota and and Jankho Khota. Cammp by Jankho Khota. 4-6 hrs walk

15th day.- JANKHO KHOTA - MARIA LLOCO

On this day we have as our companion Huayna Potosi massif. Some of the climbers in the group will finish here the Trek to then climb up to 6088 m. Camping near Maria LLoco.

5-7 hrs walk

16th day.-  MARIA LLOCO - HUAYNA POTOSI

It is another impressive day because as we get closer to Huayna Potosi we can feel that the range is now a bit different. We get to Huayna Potosi around 3 p.m. 4-6 hrs walk.

Finishing point for those who have chosen the 16 day Trek. 

Car back to La Paz. Late arrival in La Paz.

17th day.- HUAYNA POTOSI - LARAMA KHOTA

This is a day to enjoy new scenery. As we leave Huayna Potosí back,  We will start a new series of Massifs. By now we have started the last 30 % of our trek. Head to Illimani for the next days will be unbelievable. We will camp by Larama Khota.

Huayna Potosi is the starting point for the following Treks

  • 2 day trek Huayna Potosí - La Cumbre
  • 3 day trek Huayna Potosí - Serkhe Khota
  • 6 day trek Huayna Potosí - Mina San Francisco
  • 9 day trek Huayna Potosí - Estancia Una

18th day.- LARAMA KHOTA - LA CUMBRE - RIO MIKHAYA

After a couple of hours we will get to La Cumbre, which is also the starting point for another pre-Inca Trek called Choro Trail, as well as the famous Bike ride down the World's Most Dangerous Road and so on. We will relax for a while at La Cumbre and then we will continue on to Rio Mikhaya and Camp. 4-6 hrs walk

La Cumbre is the finishing point for those who have chosen the 18 day trek.

La Cumbre is the starting point for the following treks:

  • 5 day trek La Cumbre - Mina San Francisco
  • 8 day trek La Cumbre - Estancia Una

19th day.- RIO MIKHAYA - SERKHE KHOTA

Going from Rio Mikhaya  to Serkhe Khota will be kind of a refreshing hike .We will camp at the base of beautiful Serkhe Mountain by the lake Sekhe Khota. 4-6 hrs walk.

20th day.- SERKHE KHOTA - JATHI KHULLU

Like before we won't take the normal route. We go a different way to a beautiful massif called Jathi Khullu. Couldn't have been more isolated. 5-7 hrs walk

21st day.- JATHI KHULLU - SERRANIAS MURILLO

On this day we will head to one of the lakes at the base of Serranías Murillo. Here we will have the option to fish some trout. We're getting closer to the end.

5-7 hrs walk

22nd day.- SERRANIAS MURILLO - MINA SAN FRANCISCO

We will get just after midday to Mina San Francisco where we will have lots of free time to recover, this place is normally a grassland where llamas and vicuñ-as can be seen.

Pure streams coming from the mountains and fantastic views of Mururata.

4-5 hrs walk

This is also the starting point for the following Trek:

  • 3 day Trek Mina San Francisco - Estancia Una

23rd day.- MINA SAN FRANCISCO -  WILA KHOTA

Now we will start the walk through the last 2 massifs Mururata and Illimani. During these last three days we'll have amazing views
of Mururata and the highest mountain of the Royal Range: Illimani 6438 m Camp near cerro Wila Khota before the pass Cumbre de Pacoani. 4-6 hrs walk

24th day.- WILA KHOTA - PUNKHUYU

On this day we will walk up to the impressive pass called Cumbre de Pacoani. From here we can clearly see the end of the Trek at the base of Illimani. Camp at Punkhuyu. 5-7 hrs walk Camp

25th day.- PUNKHUYU - ESTANCIA UNA - LA PAZ

Punkhuyu - Estancia Una - La Paz. Congratulations, this is your last walk, You've made it. After an early breakfast we head towards Estancia Una. There our private transport will be waiting for us to take us back to La Paz.  4-6 hrs walk

18 people max.  01 min. per group.(1 guide every 6 people)

PORTERS, MULES, DONKEYS?

If you have more luggage than our weight limit (15 kg), you will have to hire another mule at an extra cost.

COOK?

We include a cook for the group.

FOOD?

Big meals are breakfast and dinner. We provide massive sandwiches for lunch though.

LUGGAGE ?

You must bring all of what you can for the entire programme.
