MAPIRI TRAIL
8 days

• Total length of the Tour from La Paz and back to La Paz is 8 or 9 days. Note that we will charge you only for 6 days. 1st and last days are only for transport

• As this Trek finishes in Guanay, it could be combined with the “Jungle Tour – Boat To Rurrenabaque” Check out Amazon Basin Section – Jungle & Pampas/Boat Trips. Good for those going to Rurrenabaque

Off the beaten track. Simply amazing!

Even when a misinformed foreign “Trekking writer” says that this trail was built in the 19th century by the quinine industry. We as Bolivians and with a lot of more knowledge (and can prove it at any time) have to say that on this trail you will see how far the Tiwanakotas and Aymaras (pre-Inca Cultures) explored the Jungle. You will see high Mountains on the first 2 days, the Upper and Lower Cloud Forest for 4 days. River boat trip or jeep at the end in order to get to Guanay as a good place to freshen up before taking the scenic Bus trip back to La Paz

Tough but beautiful.

Programme

1st day.- 06:00 pick up from the Hotel. 07:00 Bus to Sorata. From the bus you will see all the time the Andes to then get into the Valley where Sorata is.

11.00 Arrive in Sorata. Lunch. After lunch we will take another transport to the starting point where we camp.

2nd day.- We will walk to a High Mountain Pass and start the descent (6hrs total walk)

3rd day.- High Altiplano for you to enjoy isolated areas and camp near the Cloud Forest.

4th,5th, 6th & These days are fascinating as we walk into the upper Cloud Forest first and then into the Lower Cloud Forest. You will feel how isolated is the area as you will not see too many locals.(5- 7 hrs walk daily)

7th day.- On this day you will get to Mapiri late in the afternoon.

8th day.- The guide will arrange tickets either on a Boat, jeep or bus to get to Guanay.

We always go to Guanay because is a place with more facilities than Mapiri. From here you can take one of the buses leaving at 09:30 a.m. or 19:00 to La Paz. Other option for those wanting to go to Rurrenabaque is the 3 day Jungle Tour-Boat To Rurrenabaque that leaves every Saturday. You have to make sure your Trek finishes on Friday so that you can join the group going to Rurrenabaque on Saturday
